Sensex, Nifty Decline, IT Stocks Buck The Trend: Mid-Day Market Update

India's stock benchmarks declined, dragged by losses across sectors, barring information technology.

The Sensex fell more than 130 points to 57,999.87 as of 1 p.m. on Wednesday. The Nifty 50 declined 0.40% to 17,276.10.

Of the Nifty 50 constituents, 10 stocks rose, while 40 fell.

The broader indices underperformed their larger peers. While the mid-cap index lost 1.25%, the small-cap gauge shed 0.7%.

Barring IT and teck, all the other 17 sectoral indices compiled by BSE Ltd. declined. Telecom lost nearly 2%—the most among sectors.

The market breadth was skewed in favour of the bears. About 1,108 stocks rose, 2,128 fell and 129 remained unchanged.
