Sensex, Nifty Decline As IT, Power Stocks Fall: Market Wrap

India's stock benchmarks ended lower, dragged by information technology and utilities stocks, a day after the U.S. Fed hiked interest rates by 75 basis points.

The Sensex declined 0.11% to close at 60,836.41. The Nifty 50 fell 0.19% to close at 18,047.85.

Today, 24 of the Nifty 50 stocks rose, while 25 fell, and one remained unchanged.

State Bank of India, Titan Co., UPL Ltd., Bajaj Auto Ltd. and Hindustan Unilever Ltd. were the top gainers on the Nifty 50.

Tech Mahindra Ltd., Hindalco Industries Ltd., Power Grid Corp. of India Ltd., and Eicher Motors Ltd. and were the top losers

The broader indices outperformed their larger peers with the Midcap and Smallcap gauge gaining 0.22% and 0.11%, respectively. The Largecap gauge declined 0.13%.

Nine of the 20 sectoral measures compiled by BSE Ltd. declined with information technology, power and utilities index declining over 1%.

The market breadth is skewed in favour of bulls. About 1,780 stocks rose, 1,671 fell and 133 remained unchanged.
