Shares of Shriram Finance Ltd., Larsen & Toubro Ltd., and Bharat Electronics Ltd. were the top gainers among the NSE Nifty 50 stocks on Tuesday.
Among the losers were shares of Trent Ltd., ITC Hotel Ltd., Britannia Industries Ltd., Hero Motocorp Ltd. and Nestle India Ltd.
The benchmark indices were traded higher throughout Tuesday, though they experienced a slight dip in early afternoon before bouncing back as China, in retaliation to Trump's tariff, announced plans to impose a 15% tariff on imports of coal and liquefied natural gas (LNG) from the United States.
This move comes in response to the 10% tariffs that Washington has placed on Chinese goods.
On Monday, Trump's imposed broad tariffs in which Canada is facing a 25% levy on most of its exports, with the exception of energy products, which will be taxed at 10%.
The benchmark Sensex gained 1.91% at 78,658.59, while the NSE Nifty 50 rose 1.72% to 23,762.75.
In terms of sectoral performance, Nifty Oil and Gas, Nifty PSU Bank and Nifty Energy gained the most. Out of 12 sectors, only one sector ended in red, that is, Nifty FMCG.
Top Gainers
Shriram Finance Ltd was the top gainer on Tuesday as it soared 5.60%. Post-union budget, finance companies have been continuously rallying. On Monday, Bajaj Finance emerged as the top gainer with its shares closing at 5.32%.
Larsen and Toubro followed closely as the second biggest gainer, where the stock gained as much as 4.56%. Bharat Electronics Ltd. and Adani Ports & Special Economic Zone Ltd. gained 3.78% and 3.71%, respectively.
Top Losers
Among the losersTrent Ltd. declined the most, falling 6.27% and ITC Hotels followed close as the share price of the company fell 4.47%
Other laggards on Tuesday's trade were Britannia Industries Ltd., Hero Motocorp Ltd. and Nestle India Ltd.
