India's stock benchmarks declined, dragged by losses in metal, realty and information technology stocks.
The Sensex lost 250 points (over 0.4%) to 57,865.37 as of 1 p.m. on Tuesday. The Nifty 50 also declined 0.5% to 17,256.20.
Of the Nifty 50 constituents, 22 stocks rose, 27 fell and one remained unchanged.
The broader indices outperformed their larger peers, up 0.2%. Thirteen of the 19 sectoral indices compiled by BSE Ltd. fell, with realty losing nearly 2%.
The market breadth, however, was skewed in favour of the bulls. About 1,831 stocks rose, 1,410 fell and 143 remained unchanged.
