Volume versus margins choices shall play an important part for both life and general insurers in FY25. Higher Unit Linked Insurance Plan-driven volumes in life insurance will likely accompany a declining margin profile.
However, it is more of an underwriting call in general insurance, wherein motor target price or group health growth could lead to adverse margins depending on business selection.
On a comparative basis, life insurers can be set for healthy value of new business growth despite margin decline as indicated in the Q1 FY25 results. In general insurance, underwriting results will eventually decide the right strategy.
