Indian Rupee Closes Past 79 For First Time In Nearly A Month

The Indian rupee closed past 79 against the U.S. dollar for the first time since July 4.

The domestic currency closed 0.4% higher at 78.71 against the greenback on Tuesday. It gained as much as 0.67% to 78.49 during the day.

It had opened at 78.95, according to Bloomberg data.

The rupee has gained for four consecutive sessions now, after the U.S. Federal Reserve hiked rates on expected lines. It had weakened to a record low beyond 80 on July 19, and again on July 21.
