The Indian rupee strengthened against the U.S. dollar for the third straight session.
The domestic currency appreciated as much as 26 paise, or 0.33%, to 79.00 against the greenback intraday, before closing at 79.02 on Monday. It had opened 7 paise higher than Friday's close at 79.19, according to Bloomberg data.
The rupee gained after the U.S. Federal Reserve hiked rates on expected lines. It had weakened to a record low beyond 80 on July 19, and again on July 21.
