Our virtual conference, 'Fields and Yields' on India's agriculture industry, held from September 12th to 15th, 2022, was an insightful one. We hosted representatives from companies, corporates, industry experts (including former government officials) and large dealers of agri-input to facilitate investors in gaining a broader perspective on the sector.
Agri-input dealers are gung-ho on the current demand that stems from a bumper rabi output, high commodity prices, and above-normal monsoon.
The expected surge in farmers' earnings this year will likely be driven by higher agri-commodity prices and superior yields across most crops (expect paddy).
This should offset the higher diesel, agri-input and other overhead costs for the farmers.
On the policy front, government's timely intervention through higher fertiliser subsidy would act as a breather, helping farmers in keeping costs under control.
