It has also collected more than $500 million at the domestic box office, according to Variety." The film has done especially well in IMAX theaters, which have made up around 12% of all tickets sold. With about $257 million in revenue, The Odyssey has become the highest-grossing film of all time on the IMAX platform, according to Variety, the report noted.
The Odyssey Cast
The film features a large ensemble cast led by Matt Damon, who plays Odysseus, the Greek king trying to return home to Ithaca after the Trojan War. Tom Holland stars as Telemachus, while Anne Hathaway plays Penelope.
The cast also includes Zendaya, Robert Pattinson and Charlize Theron in key roles. The story follows Odysseus and his dangerous journey home after the events of the Trojan War.
Christopher Nolan's Theatrical Release
The Odyssey stayed in theatres for a longer period compared to many big studio films before heading to home entertainment. Variety reported that Christopher Nolan and Universal had used a similar release strategy for Oppenheimer, which spent 123 days in cinemas before arriving on premium video-on-demand and physical media in November 2023.
