Bollywood actor Rajpal Yadav has received interim relief from the Delhi High Court in a Rs 9 crore cheque bounce case. The court observed that since a substantial amount has already been paid, the actor will not be sent back to jail at this stage.

Yadav appeared before the court as his interim bail period came to an end on March 18. His counsel informed the court that a petition seeking suspension of sentence and regular bail has been filed.

The defence submitted that the actor has already paid Rs 4.25 crore to the complainant, M/s Murli Projects Private Limited, and also submitted a Rs 25 lakh demand draft during the hearing.

Taking note of these payments, the court said there was no need to send him to jail at this stage. During the hearing, Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma remarked, “I am not sending him to jail. He has already made a substantial payment.”

It also added that the case would be examined in detail and listed the next hearing for April 1, while extending interim relief to the actor.

The Case Explained

The case relates to a Rs 9 crore cheque bounce dispute, where Yadav was accused of failing to honour financial commitments despite multiple assurances. The complaint was filed by M/s Murli Projects Private Limited, a company that had entered into a financial agreement with the actor and later approached the court after the dues remained unpaid.

On Feb. 5, the actor surrendered before authorities after his plea seeking more time to repay the amount was rejected. He was subsequently lodged in Tihar Jail.

Yadav was later granted temporary relief after depositing Rs 1.5 crore, leading to his release from jail on Feb. 17. The court had then suspended his sentence until March 18, giving him time to settle his dues.

Since then, the actor has continued to make payments, with additional payments being processed.

For now, with partial payments made and legal proceedings ongoing, Yadav has managed to stay out of jail, but his fate will ultimately depend on the court's decision in the upcoming hearings.
