The first major AI trend of 2026 is here! The latest one harnessing the power of artificial intelligence (AI) is allowing users to generate portrait-style caricatures.
The caricatures, which have taken over social media by a storm, often resemble the hand-drawn pictures by artists at tourist destination. But what makes them different are the semi-exaggerated facial features - huge smiles, big eyes, long noses and others - depicting an individual engaged in their work.
What's The ChatGPT Caricature Trend?
As part of the latest trend, people from various cities worldwide have been uploading their photographs on the OpenAI-backed platform and asking it to make a workplace image for them based on their chat history.
ChatGPT later shows them an exaggerated cartoon that has a background scene highlighting their professional life. These depict individuals engaged in their jobs or hobbies. The caricatures are hyper-detailed and mention multiple references to other aspects of the individual's life. Among these include food, pets and more.
People across all walks of life have since jumped on the bandwagon, echoing former popular trends like the last year's Ghibli-style portraits. From social media influencers to professionals, many have shared the results on the internet.
How It Works?
Users are simply required to upload a photograph of themselves on ChatGPT and asked the platform to generate a caricature based on that. For the ones looking for the ChatGPT prompt, here it is: “Create a caricature of me and my job based on everything you know about me.”
According to The Straits Times, this is also working for other generative AI tools, like Google Gemini.
Usually, people are being asked to upload a selfie. Those having sufficient history with the platform can experience a smoother process. But people who are new and have not shared much details with ChatGPT could be asked to provide more information about their occupation, hobbies, interests and other things.
In a few cases, users might also be asked to give information on aspects of their personalities or even highlight more about their home environments.
For free version of ChatGPT, up to five images are allowed in a day, those with paid version can make as many as they require.
Also, people can give their own instructions rather than using the viral prompt. It can be like, "Make a caricature of mine. I am working as a doctor."
Providing extra details helps ChatGPT to understand what exactly the user wants, making the results look more real.
