After the majority of exit polls projected the Bharatiya Janata Party's lead over the Trinamool Congress in West Bengal, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee stated her party is well-positioned to establish the next government.

In a video message, the TMC chief alleged that the Union government made every effort to frighten TMC supporters and demoralise her party members. According to Mamata, the TMC will win more than 226 of Bengal's 294 assembly seats to retake power.

"I will guard the EVMs myself, if need be," she added, urging TMC employees to remain vigilant.

She also denied the results of the exit poll, claiming that the figures were intended to discourage TMC employees. Mamata claimed that the exit polls were from the BJP's office and that the post-election forecasts were fake.

Two of the six pollsters predict a sweep for the ruling Trinamool Congress, while four predict a tight victory for the Bharatiya Janata Party. In the 294-member Bengal Assembly, 148 is the magic number for the formation of a new government in the state.

A fierce battle between the BJP and Mamata Banerjee's Trinamool Congress has framed the 2026 election, with the Congress-Left coalition looking for areas of renewal. The campaign themes were women voters, Bengali pride and widespread voter deletions during the Election Commission's Special Intensive Revision.

Exit polls during the 2021 polls had indicated that the TMC and the BJP would compete closely in Bengal. According to the poll of polls, the BJP would secure a solid 121 seats while Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's Trinamool Congress party would win 156 of the state's 292 seats that were up for election.

However, the Mamata Banerjee-led TMC ultimately won 215 of the 292 seats that were contested, giving them a landslide victory. The BJP became the main opposition party in the West Bengal assembly after winning 77 seats.
