Mumbaikars will have to start using water judiciously as reservoirs supplying water to the city have only 10% of usable water stock.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation announced on Saturday they would be imposing a 5% water cut in the city from May 30, and a 10% water cut from June 5, as a precautionary measure to ensure the stock is used for as long as possible.

"The water cut will remain in force till satisfactory rainfall is received and the useful stock in the water bodies improves," the civic body said in a post on X.

The BMC said as of May 25, the stock in the dams supplying water to Mumbai was a total of 1,40,202 million litres. Only 9.69% of the water stock was available as against 14,47,363 million litres per annum requirement.
