A water pipeline burst in Bandra area in Mumbai on Monday, causing a massive jet of water to shoot 40-50 feet high, reported NDTV. The incident occurred near Bandra Reclamation. 

The sudden rupture caused significant water wastage and briefly affected traffic in the area as authorities worked to control the situation. Repair teams were deployed soon after, and civic officials began assessing the damage and the impact on local water supply.

This comes at a time when the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has announced water cuts at several parts of the city including Bandra West.

The civic body will carry out repair work on a leaking 900-mm diameter pipeline near the Qureshi Nagar slum in Kurla East on Tuesday, from 10am to midnight. During this 14-hour operation, water supply will be completely suspended in several parts of the H West ward, including major areas of Bandra, while some localities may experience low pressure.

Areas expected to face a full shutdown in Bandra West include Hill Road, Perry Road, Manuel Gonsalves Road, St. Andrews Road, St. Paul Road, Carter Road, Pali Village, Chimbai Village, Shirley Village, and Kantwadi. Khar Danda, Koliwada, Dandpada, Chui Gaothan, Gazdarbandh slum, and parts of Khar West will also be affected, reported Hindustan Times.

Disruptions are further expected in Hanuman Nagar slum, Laxmi Nagar, Carter Road, Union Park (Roads 1–4), Pali Hill, the Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Road area, Pali Pathar slum, and Khar's 15th to 20th Roads.

In Bandra West, water supply will additionally remain shut in Chapel Road, Veronica Road, Dr. Peter Dias Road, St. John Baptist Road, the Mount Mary Cathedral area and nearby lanes, K.C. Road, L.K. Mehta Road, parts of Bazaar Road, A.K. Vaidya Road, Zigzag Road, Koldongri, Nargis Dutt Road, and Pali Mala Road.

The BMC has advised residents to store adequate water in advance, use it judiciously during the shutdown, and boil and filter drinking water for the next few days as a safety measure. The civic body has urged citizens to cooperate while the repair work is in progress.
