Western Railway has introduced a revised Mumbai suburban train timetable from September 1, 2026, with changes aimed at improving punctuality, matching services with passenger demand and easing congestion at key stations, particularly Borivali.
As per the X post, Western Railway stated, "Western Railway is introducing new services and operational changes in suburban train services with effect from 1st September 2026."

The total number of suburban services will remain unchanged at 1,414. However, six new local services have been introduced while six existing services have been withdrawn or cancelled. Weekday AC local services will also increase from 145 to 147.
The new services include Bandra-Churchgate at 11:58 am and Virar-Borivali at 11:51 pm in the up direction. Down services include Bhayandar-Virar at 7:46 am, Borivali-Bhayandar at 10:14 pm, Borivali-Virar at 10:51 pm and another Borivali-Bhayandar service at 12:28 am.
"The update includes newly introduced services, revised stoppages and cancellations," it added.
Two regular services have also been converted into AC locals. The Churchgate-Borivali service departing at 5:28 pm and the Borivali-Churchgate service departing at 6:24 pm will now operate as AC services.
To address evening congestion at Borivali, the 6:22 pm Churchgate-Virar AC local and the 7:05 pm Churchgate-Virar local will skip their Borivali stops on a trial basis, while continuing to halt at Dahisar. An alternative AC local will leave Churchgate at 6:28 pm and serve Borivali.
Several Western Railway services will be extended or merged under the revised timetable. The 8:23 am Virar-Dadar service will now run up to Churchgate, reaching around 9:48 am, while the Dadar-Virar and Virar-Dahanu Road services have been merged to provide a direct Dadar-Dahanu Road train.
The 10:24 am Churchgate-Borivali AC slow service will also be extended to Goregaon. The changes are aimed at making better use of existing capacity rather than adding more services overall. Western Railway has advised passengers to check the revised timings, routes and halts before travelling.

Commuters are expected to see changes in journey patterns, particularly during peak hours, as the railway seeks to distribute passenger loads more efficiently and reduce bottlenecks on the Western line.
