Massive Fire Engulfs Residential Building In East Delhi, Nine Killed | Watch Video

A devastating fire in east Delhi claimed at least nine lives early Sunday morning, officials confirmed. The Delhi Fire Service (DFS) received an emergency call at approximately 3:48 AM reporting a blaze at a four-storey structure in Vivek Vihar Phase-I, reported news agency PTI. Local police, disaster management teams, and fire tenders were immediately dispatched to the scene to initiate rescue operations.

As per a senior police officer cited by PTI, rescuers managed to pull 10 to 15 people from the burning structure, "Around 10 to 15 people were rescued from the premises during the firefighting operation. Two of them, who sustained minor injuries, were shifted to Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital.”

According to the Delhi Police, the blaze quickly spread through the second, third, and fourth floors, trapping residents in their homes as thick smoke filled the corridors. The scale of the fire prompted a massive response from the Delhi Fire Service and local disaster management teams.

Two of the injured suffered minor injuries and were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment, an official added, reported India Today. A coordinated emergency response involving multiple agencies was required to battle a fierce residential fire in East Delhi's Vivek Vihar early Sunday morning.

A total of 12 fire tenders were pressed into service to combat the flames that tore through the upper floors of a four-storey building. The fire department led the charge, supported by teams from the Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), the local police, and traffic units, as per PTI.

Police confirmed that the blaze was brought under control after several hours of continuous effort. According to the Delhi Police, the identities of the victims remain unknown due to the severity of the fire. Further investigation and legal proceedings are currently underway.
