Maharashtra Rain Alert: IMD Issues Orange Alert For Pune, Nashik — Check Warning For Other Cities

IMD said that light to moderate rain and thundershowers are likely to affect Mumbai and its adjoining districts over the next two days.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Thursday issued an oranage alert heavy rains in Pune and yellow alert for Thane and Raigad among other districts.

The weather department said that light to moderate rain and thundershowers are likely to affect Mumbai and its adjoining districts over the next two days, forecasting thunderstorm activity accompanied by lightning and gusty winds across several parts of Maharashtra till April 3.

IMD said that several interior districts including Nashik, Pune, Jalgaon, Dhule, and Ahilyanagar are likely to witness more intense weather conditions on April 2, with thunderstorms accompanied by lightning, gusty winds reaching 50–60 kmph, and hail at isolated places. 

However, it noted that the intensity is expected to gradually decrease over the next two days, shifting to light to moderate rainfall before dry conditions prevail.

According to the forecast issued on April 2, Mumbai is expected to receive light to moderate rainfall or thundershowers on April 2, followed by light rain on April 3. 

Dry weather conditions are likely to prevail in the city from April 4 to April 6, even as the probability of rainfall remains “very likely” during the initial phase.

Meanwhile, adjoining districts of Thane and Palghar are expected to receive light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds of 30–40 kmph at isolated places on April 2.

Coastal Areas To Receive Thundershowers Aswell 

Coastal districts such as Raigad, Ratnagiri, and Sindhudurg are forecast to experience thunderstorms with lightning, light to moderate rainfall, and gusty winds on April 2. Rain activity is expected to continue in a milder form on April 3, before turning dry from April 4 onwards. The IMD has said that a very likely probability will be there for rainfall across these districts during the initial phase.

Marathwada Districts To See Thunderstorm Activity

Districts such as Latur, Beed, Nanded, Parbhani, and Dharashiv are likely to experience thunderstorms with lightning, moderate rainfall, and gusty winds ranging between 40–60 kmph over multiple days. The activity is expected to persist until April 5 in some areas before easing into dry weather conditions.

Vidarbha Districts To Witness Thunderstorms At Isolated Pockets

In Vidarbha, districts including Nagpur, Amravati, Chandrapur, Gadchiroli, and Bhandara are forecast to receive thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds of 30–40 kmph at isolated places on select days.

IMD Issues Advisory 

The IMD has warned of possible cloud-to-ground lightning, local power disruptions, and minor damage to weak structures due to gusty winds. 

Farmers have been advised to harvest matured crops, avoid irrigation and spraying, and ensure safe storage of produce.

Residents have been asked to avoid open areas, stay away from trees and water bodies, and unplug electrical appliances during thunderstorm.
