All India Trinamool Congress leader Mahua Moitra defeated Bharatiya Janata Party candidate Amrita Roy in the Krishnanagar seat of West Bengal by 56,705 votes during the counting of the Lok Sabha election results on Tuesday.
Moitra, who was expelled from the Lok Sabha over the alleged cash-for-query case, has gotten approximately 6.29 lakh votes. As many as 5.72 lakh votes were bagged by Roy, a member of the town's erstwhile royal family, who had joined the saffron party in March.
SM Sadi of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), which has been backed by the Indian National Congress, has got 1.8 lakh votes, according to the Election Commission of India website.

June 4, 2024The TMC had clinched the seat in the 2009, 2014, and 2019 general elections. In 2019, the 49-year-old TMC leader had defeated the BJP's Kalyan Chaubey by over 60,000 votes, bagging 45% of the total votes. The BJP had got 40.4% of the votes, while the CPI (M) and the Congress—which fought separately—had polled 8.8% and 2.8% of the of the votes, respectively.

Moitra, a former investment banker at JPMorgan Chase, was also a legislator from the Karimpur assembly constituency in the parliamentary seat.
