An India-flagged vessel, Green Asha, carrying 15,400 tonnes of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), arrived at Mumbai port on April 9, Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA) said in a statement, as per reports. Earlier this week, the shipment had successfully crossed the Strait of Hormuz. The successful arrival comes amid concerns over energy crisis due to the Iran-US war.
"Today, JNPA proudly welcomed Green Asha, an India-flagged LPG vessel that has successfully crossed the Strait of Hormuz, and has moored at JNPA's liquid berth operated by BPCL-IOCL," it said.
The port added that this development is seen as a significant milestone as it is the first such vessel to reach JNPA since the start of the war.
"The vessel, its cargo, and every member of the crew are safe and secure. This arrival highlights the ability of maritime operations to function amid complex geopolitical conditions while ensuring the steady supply of essential LPG to the nation," it said.

The LPG tanker isn't the only vessel making headway; the India-flagged Green Sanvi successfully transited the Strait of Hormuz on April 6, as per reports.
The conflict has disrupted energy supplies after Iran claimed 'full control' of the Strait of Hormuz, a route vital for fuel shipment worldwide, which also contributes significantly to India's oil imports.
LPG consumption in India reached 33.15 million metric tons over the past year. To meet this massive requirement, India currently imports 60% of its cooking gas. The supply chain is highly concentrated, with nine out of every ten imported metric tons originating from Middle Eastern suppliers.
