The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds in Northwest India, including the Delhi-NCR region, over the next few days.
The weather agency said isolated to scattered light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and winds reaching 30-50 kmph is expected over Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi, Punjab and East Rajasthan, while Uttar Pradesh is likely to witness similar conditions on May 7 and in the coming days.

Western Disturbance
The IMD attributed the changing weather to a western disturbance extending across north India, along with several upper air cyclonic circulations over southwest Rajasthan, northeast Uttar Pradesh, central Assam, north Telangana and the Gulf of Mannar.
A fresh western disturbance is also expected to impact the western Himalayan region from May 10, triggering another wet spell across Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana and Delhi between May 10 and 12. Gusty winds during this period could reach 40-50 kmph and gust up to 60 kmph in some areas.
Heatwave Warning For Rajasthan
The IMD has warned of rising temperatures across northwest and central India. Maximum temperatures are likely to rise gradually by 5-7 degrees Celsius over northwest India till May 10, while central India could see a 3-5 degree Celsius increase till May 9.
Heatwave conditions are likely to prevail in isolated pockets of West Rajasthan between May 9 and 11, the IMD said. The weather office also forecast hot and humid conditions over Konkan and Goa till May 9 and coastal Gujarat between May 9 and 12.
Heavy Rain Likely In Northeast, South India
In northeast India, scattered to fairly widespread rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning is likely to be seen over Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura over the next few days. Isolated heavy rainfall is likely over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya on May 7 and 8.
Eastern states, including Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim, are also expected to witness thunderstorms and gusty winds through the week. Gangetic West Bengal may experience thundersqualls with wind speeds reaching 50-70 kmph on May 9.
According to the IMD, isolated to scattered thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds reaching 30-50 kmph are likely over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, Kerala, Mahe, Rayalaseema, Karnataka, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam and Telangana during the next five days. Lakshadweep is also likely to witness similar conditions on May 9 and 10.
In central India, Madhya Pradesh is likely to receive isolated light to moderate rainfall along with thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds reaching 40-50 kmph today.
