An 'orange alert' has been issued due to the prediction of heavy rain for Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Sikkim and Assam by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on March 27. Gusty winds accompanied by rain, snowfall and thunderstorms, owing to the active Western Disturbances across the Western Himalayan region, will be seen till 31st March, and the northwest plains will witness rainfall.
Several parts of India are on 'yellow alert' for rain today. IMD has also forecast isolated light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms over northwestern, central and southern states till 28th March. This week, isolated heavy rainfall will be seen over sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim, IMD predicted on 27th March.

As per the recent IMD press release, “Isolated to scattered rainfall/snowfall with thunderstorm, lightning & gusty winds likely over the Western Himalayan region till 27th and scattered to fairly widespread during 28th-31st March in association with Western Disturbances. Isolated to scattered rainfall activity also likely over plains of northwest India till 31st March.”
South India
Southern states like Kerala will experience hot and humid weather today. IMD stated, “Isolated light rainfall with thunderstorm, lightning & gusty winds, with wind speed reaching (30-50 kmph), likely over Madhya Pradesh on 27th and 29th-31st March; Chhattisgarh during the next 7 days; Vidarbha during the next 5 days,” on 26 March. In Maharashtra, Mumbai and suburbs will look at clear skies and hot weather conditions, with maximum temperatures of around 35 degrees Celsius, while minimum at 23 degrees Celsius on Friday.
Capital City Delhi
According to IMD data, Delhi's temperatures are expected to peak between 29°C and 31°C, with lows ranging from 19°C to 21°C. While maximum temperatures remain near the seasonal average, the city is experiencing a warmer-than-usual stretch, with minimums sitting 1.6°C to 3.0°C above normal across most areas. Adjoining areas of Delhi, Yamunanagar, Karnal and Kurukshetra in Haryana, expect heavy rains, and areas in East Uttar Pradesh will witness very light rain today.
