The assembly election in India's national capital, Delhi, is set to take place in a few days. The 70 constituencies of the Delhi Assembly will go into polls on Wednesday, Feb. 5 amidst a fierce political battle between incumbent Aam Aadmi Party, the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Congress.

Delhi Election 2025: Voting And Result Date

Elections to the 70 assembly constituencies in Delhi will be held in a single phase on Feb. 5. The results will be announced on Saturday, Feb. 8.

Delhi Assembly Election 2025 Schedule

On Jan. 7, the Election Commission Of India announced the schedule for the Delhi Elections with these key dates: 

• Date of Issue of Gazette Notification: 10.01.2025 (Friday)

• Last Date of Making Nominations: 17.01.2025 (Friday)

• Date for Scrutiny of Nominations: 18.01.2025 (Saturday)

• Last Date of Withdrawal of Candidatures: 20.01.2025 (Monday)

• Date of Poll: 05.02.2025 (Wednesday)

• Date of Counting: 08.02.2025 (Saturday)

Delhi Election 2025: Key Parties

The upcoming Delhi Assembly elections are shaping up to be a heated three-way contest between the incumbent AAP, BJP and the Congress.

The BJP is vigorously pushing to regain power in the national capital after more than 26 years, emphasising its "Parivartan" (change) campaign and targeting the Arvind Kejriwal-led AAP over corruption charges.

Meanwhile, the Congress, which governed Delhi from 1998 to 2013, has struggled to find its footing in the political landscape over the past decade. The elections will be a crucial juncture for the AAP which rose to power riding on the wave of anti-corruption agitation led by social activist Anna Hazare.

Delhi Election 2025: Voter Details

Delhi has about 1.55 crore voters, of which 83.49 lakh people are males and 71.74 lakh are females. Around 2.08 lakh of them are first-time voters. There are 25.89 lakh young voters who will cast their ballots this election, falling in the age group between 20 and 29.

Around 1,261 voters are transgenders, while 830 people are centenarians. About 1.09 lakh registered voters are over the age of 85.

Delhi Assembly Elections 2025: Key Candidates

Former Delhi Chief Minister and AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal will contest the New Delhi assembly, a seat he has held since 2013. The BJP has fielded  Parvesh Singh Verma, son of former CM Sahib Singh Verma, against Kejriwal. Meanwhile, Sandeep Dikshit, son of CM Sheila Dikshit, is the Congress candidate.

CM Atishi will represent AAP in the Kalkaji seat, seeking re-election. She will face BJP's Ramesh Bidhuri and Congress' Alka Lamba.

Former Delhi Deputy CM Manish Sisodia has left his Patparganj seat to contest from Jangpura. BJP has forayed Tarvinder Singh Marwah and Farhad Suri will contest under Congress' ticket.

Former AAP transport minister Kailash Gahlot, who recently joined the BJP, will contest from Bijwasan. Former Delhi Congress president Arvinder Singh Lovely who also switched to BJP will seek to win from Gandhi Nagar.
