'Ready' Actor Pravina Deshpande Passes Away At 60 After Cancer Battle

Veteran Actor Pravina Deshpande, known for her work across Hindi and Marathi cinema as well as television, passed away on February 17 after a long battle with cancer. She was 60.

Her family confirmed the news in a statement shared on her official social media account that read, “It is with great sadness that we inform you that Mrs Pravina Deshpande has left for her heavenly abode on 17th February 2026.” [sic]

She had been undergoing treatment for multiple myeloma, a form of blood cancer, since 2019 and continued to work through much of her illness with characteristic determination.

Her last rites were performed the same day at the Hindu Crematorium in Chakala Parsiwada, Andheri East, in the presence of close family members and colleagues. Soon after the news of her passing, tributes began pouring in from across the industry, with many remembering not just her performances but also her discipline on set, her generosity with co-actors and her constant encouragement to younger talent.

The Cine & TV Artistes' Association (CINTAA) also expressed condolences on social media.

Deshpande built a steady and respected career over several decades, moving effortlessly between films, television, theatre and, in recent years, digital platforms. She became widely recognised among Hindi film audiences for her supporting role in Ready, where she shared screen space with Salman Khan.

Beyond Ready, she featured in notable Bollywood projects including Ek Villain, Parmanu: The Story of Pokhran and Jalebi. In Ek Villain, she appeared alongside Sidharth Malhotra and Shraddha Kapoor, while Parmanu starred John Abraham in the lead.

On television, she was a familiar face in popular daily soaps such as Kumkum – Ek Pyara Sa Bandhan, Ghar Ek Mandir, Karam Apnaa Apnaa and Kulfi Kumar Bajewala, earning lasting affection from audiences of family dramas.

In recent years, she expanded into the digital space, with her final screen appearance in the Netflix series Taskaree, featuring Emraan Hashmi.
