The Surat Diamond Bourse (SDB) in Gujarat will be the biggest hub of Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD) diamonds in the next two years, Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi has said.
Addressing a gathering during his visit on Saturday to SDB, located in Khajod area here, he also said the centre for both lab-grown and natural diamonds will shift from Mumbai to Surat looking at the current pace of development.
"Surat Diamond Bourse will be the biggest hub of diamonds in the next two years. Traders have started opening offices here in a very short time. A total of 1,500 offices are expected to become operational within the next year, with 500 new offices set to open in just the next five months," said Sanghavi.
On an average, some 2,800 to 3,200 persons are registering at the bourse daily, indicating growing trade activity, the Deputy CM said.
Sanghavi assured that rough diamond traders will also be able to start their offices here within the next four months, enabling operations from rough to polished diamonds under one roof.
