iPhone users have been waiting for Apple to roll out its latest software update iOS 18.3, especially as some bugs were literally calling out for a fix after being put under the spotlight due to some highly noticeable glitches. The reference is to the Notifications Summaries, of course. Here is what happened and how Apple has changed it.
Notification Summaries
In the update, Apple has turned off Notification Summaries by default and those concerned with News and Entertainment have been made unavailable, according to the latest release notes as they were giving the wrong responses, as pointed out by the BBC.
The Notification Summaries system was a feature of Apple Intelligence which had been drawn into controversy on Jan. 17 as its system generated false information.
Notifications Summaries itself now appear with a legend that says it “may contain errors.”
Other changes include making the Notifications Summaries settings easier to manage from the lock screen. These notifications are now able to set themselves apart from other notifications through the use of italicized text along with glyphs.
Visual Intelligence
The update also includes a 'Visual Intelligence' feature with camera controls where one can add and event to their personal digital calendar from a poster or a flyer and identify plants and animals.
Apple Intelligence
Users upgrading to iOS 18.3 will have the Apple Intelligence AI feature activated by default. It will be enabled for users and those that don't want it will have to opt-out.
According to the iOS & iPadOS 18.3 RC release notes: "To disable Apple Intelligence, users will need to navigate to the Apple Intelligence & Siri Settings pane and turn off the Apple Intelligence toggle. This will disable Apple Intelligence features on their device."
This feature will only be available on iOS devices that support Apple Intelligence, including iPads and iMacs equipped with the Apple Silicon M1 chip, as well as phone models like the iPhone 15 Pro and others.
Other Features
Apple reported that it had also fixed other features such as the personalised Genmoji not generating without selecting a different person first.
Other issues solved included the HealthKit authorization granted by the user for a data type not persisting , resulting in the app being unable to access data and asking the user again for authorization.
One more fix involved third-party apps adopting Writing Tools API on iOS, when the first responder was not a UIView, it would not be able to use the complete inline experience.
