Telecom major Vodafone India launched its 'M-Pesa' service, which facilitates money transfer through mobile phone, in Goa on Friday.
"This service empowers the unbanked and under-banked sections of the population gain access to financial services through mobile phone," Ishmeet Singh, business head for Maharashtra-Goa at Vodafone India, said.
Vodafone India and ICICI Bank have tied up for this service, which is already present in West Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Delhi since December last year.
In Goa, Vodafone has 6.4 lakh customers, of which 2.54 lakh are migrants, Mr Singh said.
He also said that migrants are potential customers for 'M-Pesa' as they need to remit saved money back home.
