US President Donald Trump has invited India to participate in a proposed international initiative aimed at ending the Gaza conflict. In the invitation, Trump outlined a 20-point roadmap of what he described as a “Comprehensive Plan to End the Gaza Conflict.” He said it was announced on Sept. 29, 2025.
The formal communication from Trump, sent to several nations, is being viewed as part of Trump's effort to reshape approaches to global conflict resolution. “In furtherance of this plan, on November 17th, the United Nations Security Council overwhelmingly adopted Resolution 2803, welcoming and endorsing this vision,” the letter stated.
At the core of his proposal lies the ‘Board of Peace', which he said would function as a transitional governing administration tasked with overseeing stabilisation, reconstruction, and long-term peace-building efforts in the region. Pakistan said it had also got an invitation from Trump to join the Gaza ‘Board of Peace'.
What Is the 'Board of Peace'?
The proposed 'Board of Peace' has been envisioned by the US President as a new international body. It would bring together around 60 invited countries to oversee the implementation of the peace initiatives. Formed on Jan. 15, the board is being seen as part of Trump's move to reshape approaches to global conflict resolution.
According to the proposal, the board would serve as a transitional governing and coordination mechanism. With a focus on implementing “lasting peace” in affected regions, the board is likely to focus on issues such as security stabilisation, humanitarian assistance, reconstruction, and political transition.
The White House said the structure would include a main board chaired by Trump, a Palestinian technocratic committee to administer Gaza and a separate executive board intended to play a largely advisory role.
Participating nations would share responsibility for ensuring lasting peace, investing in long-term development, the proposal read. Member states would normally serve three-year terms. However, countries contributing $1 billion to fund the board's activities would qualify for permanent membership, Reuters reported.
Invitation to India
The proposed Board of Peace would be chaired for life by US President Donald Trump. It would initially focus on addressing the Gaza conflict, according to Reuters. India has been invited to join the initiative as it is seen as acceptable to both Israel and Palestine because of its historic ties with both sides.
New Delhi maintains a strategic partnership with Israel while providing regular humanitarian assistance to Palestine. India was also among the first countries to send aid to Gaza through Egypt after the latest conflict began. India's Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) is yet to issue a statement on the invitation.
Governments around the world have been cautious about Trump's invitation to join the board, mainly as the move is being seen as undermining the role of the United Nations.
