The US State Department and American diplomatic missions across the Middle East issued fresh security warnings on Tuesday, September 1, urging US citizens in the regions to exercise heightened vigilance because of the possibility of an "unforeseen escalation." The warnings specifically mentioned the possibility of flight cancellations, airspace closures and travel disruptions.

A similar warning was issued by the US Embassy in Qatar, stating that tensions in the Middle East had created a complex security environment with the potential for unforeseen escalation. The warning came after the US Central Command said that American forces had begun striking targets linked to Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). Doha News reported that CENTCOM said that the operation began at noon Eastern Time or 7 pm Doha time on Tuesday.
The US Embassy in Beirut also issued a September 1 security alert, warning Americans about the possibility of an escalation. The embassy additionally advised Americans affected by flight changes to contact their airlines directly and to remain cautious around locations publicly associated with the United States.
The US Mission Saudi Arabia also published a security alert on Tuesday, warning Americans about the regional security situation, The mission similarly advised Americans to exercise heightened vigilance.
The latest warnings came as military hostilities between the US and Iran intensified again on Tuesday. The Associated Press reported that the US military launched strikes against Iranian air defence systems, radar facilities, and maritime assets, citing American claims that Iranian actions had endangered US forces and commercial vessels. The renewed US airstrikes followed a month-long lull in direct military hostilities.
According to CENTCOM's account reported by Doha News, the strikes were carried out in response to what the US described as recent attempted attacks by the IRGC against commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz and American service members deployed in the region. The Strait of Hormuz has become a major flashpoint in the conflict as it is a critical route for global energy and commercial shipping.
Iran's military officials indicated that Tehran intended to respond to the latest American attacks. Doha News reported that Iran's General Staff and Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters separately issued warnings of retaliation. The spokesperson for the IRGC warned that the US would regret the new attacks according to the report.
