Ahead of US President Donald Trump's first visit to China, Beijing has made a carefully crafted diplomatic move, releasing a video urging Washington to choose the path of mutual respect and cooperation.
Hours later, Trump took to social media calling Xi Jinping a leader "respected by all" and promising that his Beijing trip would yield major results for both nations.
China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs released a video titled 'Peaceful Coexistence' on Monday, emphasising the importance of maintaining peaceful relations while highlighting key historical milestones and areas of collaboration between China and the US.
The video, released in both Chinese and English, was shared via the foreign ministry's official account. The Chinese version runs 2 minutes and 15 seconds, while the English version is 2 minutes and 17 seconds long.
Using a combination of historical footage and animation, the video recounts multiple instances of China-US collaboration, citing that 80,000 US companies invest in China, that 80 per cent of Apple's core suppliers have plants in China, and that Tesla's Shanghai Gigafactory accounts for half of the company's global output.
It concludes that "China and the US helping each other succeed and prospering together is a tangible prospect within reach."

"The right choice is to commit to the principle of mutual respect, to hold the line on peaceful coexistence, and to strive for the prospect of win-win cooperation," it says. "China and the US must coexist peacefully on this planet for all time to come. A ready and open China is right here. It is now for the US to choose the right course."
Hours later, Trump responded on Truth Social: "I am very much looking forward to my trip to China, an amazing Country, with a Leader, President Xi, respected by all. Great things will happen for both Countries!"
Trump is scheduled to arrive in Beijing on Wednesday for a state visit running through May 15 — the first by an American president in nearly nine years. The agenda covers trade, the ongoing US-Iran conflict, Taiwan, artificial intelligence, and critical minerals.
The visit was originally planned for April but was postponed due to the 2026 Iran war, which has added both urgency and complexity to the summit.
