- Capital Mind AMC CEO Deepak Shenoy said Trump's tariffs could dismantle NATO easily
- Trump imposed 10% tariffs on EU countries supporting Denmark in Greenland dispute
- Tariffs affect Denmark, Norway, Sweden, France, Germany, UK, Netherlands, Finland
Capital Mind AMC CEO Deepak Shenoy commented on Trump's additional 10% levies on EU countries and said that it is a very simple way to dismantle NATO in a post on social media platform X on Sunday.
His post comes a day after US President Donald Trump slapped 10% tariffs on EU countries rallying to Denmark's side in his pursuit of Greenland.
The Tariffs will apply to Denmark, Norway, Sweden, France, Germany, the UK, the Netherlands and Finland, he said.Further, he added that in case a deal is not cracked for the "Total purchase of Greenland", he will increase the levies to 25% in June.
Commenting on the new levies Shenoy highlighted, "A better way to put this is: Americans will pay 10% to 25% more for Lego, Ferrari and a whole bunch of European products."
According to Shenoy the move is "a very simple way to dismantle NATO". Formed in 1949, NATO or the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation is a military and political alliance of 32 North American and European countries.
He criticised Trump for acting in bad faith and underlined that he cannot be trusted as a trading partner so it is better to not make deals with him.
"Trump is primarily acting in bad faith across the board so you cannot trust him as an international partner at all. It's probably best to not make deals," the Capital Mind CEO said.
Trump's threatened levies sparked outrage within the EU countries who had reached a trade agreement with Washington just six months ago. EU retaliated quickly after the announcement, with many countries claiming that they will halt trade with the US.
The republican President is facing backlash within America as well. US Senator Thom Tillis called out Donald Trump for making moves own allies, so did Democrat US Senator Bernie Sanders, who also said Congress should intervene and block any such measures.
