A woman from Pune went viral online after sharing her experience of being served 'halwa puri' on an Air India flight. According to the woman, she was travelling from Delhi to Bali when the traditional Indian dish was served as an in-flight meal.
The woman named Priti Jain took to X to share what she said was one of the most unexpected airline food experiences. “First in my bloodline and probably even my entire friend biradari to get halwa, puri and channa served as an in-flight meal,” she wrote. “This was on our Delhi-to-Bali flight. My husband was shocked to see the meal and avoided it because he doesn't like cold puris that much. I was kind of happy though and finished his meal too.” She concluded the post, asking, “On a lighter note, has anyone else ever been served this on an Air India flight?”
The post quickly grabbed attention on social media and garnered more than 60,000 views and attracted a range of reactions online. The combination of halwa, puri, and channa are commonly associated with Indian festive meals, temple prasad, and street-side breakfast. Hence, their appearance on an international flight left Netizens surprised. While some users were amused by the idea of the traditional fare mid-air, others shared they would have enjoyed the meal too.

“Your husband missed out on a legendary meal,” one wrote, while another added, “Cold puri or not, I would have finished both trays too.”
Some people also shared their personal experiences of receiving desi meals during flights, while others suggested all the airlines should include similar options more regularly.

“Halwa, puri, and channa as an in-flight meal is honestly one of the most unexpectedly desi airline moments possible,” an individual added. Someone also described the combination as an “elite combo".
