Amid the global LPG disruption that has left several businesses crippled, Aman Gupta, a jalebi vendor in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, has turned the crisis into opportunity.

Gupta says after a four-day shutdown due to the crisis, he came up with the innovative solution in a YouTube video. 

He has now switched to making jalebis on a stove that is fuelled by discarded “burnt mobil”. He collects waste oil from local motor service stations, and is happy his innovation doesn't harm natural resources. "The flame is just as effective, and I am able to run my business without depending on gas cylinders,” Gupta told ANI.

The innovation has quickly become a local talking point, with many suggesting such improvisations could inspire others hit by the fuel crunch. 

In a bid to mitigate risks posed by LPG disruptions triggered by Middle East geopolitical tensions and supply chain disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz, India is accelerating the shift toward piped natural gas (PNG) in urban centres.The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has also called for prioritising available LPG stocks for rural regions that lack existing PNG infrastructure.
