Amid hue and cry over OnePlus getting “dismantled” — as claimed in a recent Android Headlines report — OnePlus India CEO Robin Liu has ruled out such claims as “misinformation.” In an X post, Liu said he wanted to “address some misinformation that has been circulating about OnePlus India and its operations.”

Liu clearly announced that “recent unverified reports claiming OnePlus is shutting down are false,” adding that “OnePlus India's business operations continue as normal.” He further urged all stakeholders that they should verify information from official OnePlus sources before sharing unsubstantiated claims.

Liu's statement comes in the wake of a recent Android Headlines report about OnePlus potentially being “dismantled,” which has sparked widespread discussion in the tech world. The report highlights a deeper integration with parent company Oppo amid internal restructuring, adding that the brand appears to be gradually losing its fully independent identity, and even drawing similarities with older brands like BlackBerry, Nokia, HTC, and LG, which faded away slowly.

That said, the report does not indicate that OnePlus is exiting major markets like India or shutting down entirely. India accounts for more than half of OnePlus's annual sales. Despite some challenges with market share in recent times, and contrary to indications of a step-back, the brand's marketing strategy hints at a push forward in the country.

OnePlus recently held a high-profile launch event in India for the OnePlus 15R and OnePlus Pad Go 2, demonstrating significant marketing investment. The company has also expanded its visibility by partnering with prominent Indian figures as brand ambassadors, including cricketers Jasprit Bumrah and Smriti Mandhana, racing driver Kush Maini, singer Armaan Malik, and others.

Also, in December 2024, OnePlus announced its expansion plans in India with Project Starlight, which entails a major Rs 6,000 crore investment over three years in the country. The project aims to boost manufacturing, retail presence in Tier 2/3 cities, after-sales network, and focus on local features for OnePlus devices.
