The new Premier League season has officially begun as the fixture list for the 2025-26 campaign was released on Wednesday, Jun. 18. As always, fans around the world were eager to find out who their favourite team will face in the opening round.
Champions Liverpool to Begin Title Defence
Liverpool, who lifted the trophy at the end of the 2024-25 season, will begin their title defence against Bournemouth. This will also be the first game of the 2025-26 season. This will be the Reds' third league title bid in six years.
Arsenal, after finishing second three seasons in a row, will once again hope to challenge. They will play thier arch enemies Manchester United at Old Trafford. Meanwhile, Manchester City, which had a rare trophyless season, are expected to return stronger. Their bid for a comeback in this new season starts with a match against Wolverhampton Wanderers. On the other hand, Manchester United, who failed to qualify for any European competition, will eye a top 4 finish this season, looking to eye full 3 points against Arsenal in their opener. Their manager, Ruben Amorim, hopes the extra rest will benefit the squad.
A resurgent Chelsea side will face Crystal Palace in thier first game at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.

Season Start and End Dates
The 2025-26 Premier League season kicks off on Saturday, 16 August, exactly 83 days after the previous one ended. The season wraps up on Sunday, 24 May 2026.
There will be 33 weekends and five midweek rounds of matches. The fixture dates and times are subject to change depending on the scheduling of the FA Cup. League Cup and UEFA Champions League encounters.
New Stadium and Busy Calendar
This season also marks Everton's move to the new Hill Dickinson Stadium, ending their long stay at Goodison Park. The stadium can seat 52,888 fans.
This campaign is placed between two World Cups—the Club World Cup in summer 2025 and the FIFA World Cup in 2026.
For teams like Manchester City and Chelsea, a deep Club World Cup run could mean starting the new league season just 34 days after ending the last one.
Thankfully, there will be no matches on Christmas Eve and no two rounds will be played within 60 hours during the festive period, allowing some rest.
