US Market Wrap

US stocks rose and bond yields dropped after new data showed inflation is cooling. Traders now expect the Federal Reserve won't raise interest rates next month. Wall Street extended its rally, with the S&P 500 gaining 0.7% to close at a record high and the Nasdaq 100 advancing more than 1% to its strongest level since late June. As of 9:02 a.m. Tokyo time, S&P 500 futures were largely flat, while Euro Stoxx 50 futures edged up 0.2%, as per Bloomberg.

Asian Market Wrap

Asian equities moved higher after fresh signs of easing US inflation and softer oil prices strengthened expectations that the Federal Reserve will keep interest rates unchanged next month. MSCI's Asia Pacific Index rose 0.4%, led by a nearly 3% surge in South Korea's Kospi. Hang Seng futures fell 0.6% while Japan's Topix rose 0.4%, as per Bloomberg

Commodities Check

Gold was little changed after retreating below $4,400 an ounce, as traders weighed the Federal Reserve's interest-rate path and prospects for a deal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz. The metal remained on track for a second weekly gain despite pulling back Thursday from a 10-week high. Spot gold edged up 0.2% to $4,359.73 an ounce at 7:22 a.m. in Singapore, after shedding 1.3% on Thursday. Silver was little changed at $64.55 an ounce. Platinum and palladium were also flat, as per Bloomberg.

Crude oil held its losses amid ongoing discussions to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, with fresh attacks on tankers and energy infrastructure keeping market sentiment cautious. Brent traded near $87 a barrel after falling 2.2% in the previous session, while West Texas Intermediate was around $81, as per Bloomberg.

Indian Market Recap

Indian benchmark indices closed mixed on Thursday, August 13 as domestic equities remained influenced by global cues. In terms of sector, metal and PSU Bank stocks emerged as the top drags, while realty and FMCG stocks were among the leading gainers.

The BSE Sensex ended at 78,079.96, up 0.15%, while the Nifty50 settled at 24,395.85, down 0.16%.
