Sensex, Nifty Slip In Volatile Session; Reliance Industries Falls: Mid-Day Market Update

India's stock benchmarks swung before sliding into losses, dragged by banking stocks and index heavyweight Reliance Industries Ltd.

The Sensex lost more than 150 points at 58,193.68 as of 1:30 p.m. on Thursday. It traded in a broad 1,000-point range between 57,577.05 and 58,717.66 during the day.

The Nifty 50 fell 0.2% to 17,348.45.

Twenty of the Nifty 50 stocks rose, while 30 fell in mid-day trade.

The mid-cap gauge mirrored its larger peers, while the small-cap index outperformed. Thirteen of the 19 sectoral indices compiled by the BSE declined, with telecom and realty losing the most.

The market breadth was skewed in favour of the bears. About 1,356 stocks rose, 1,869 fell and 154 remained unchanged.
