Sensex, Nifty End Lower As Telecom, Realty Stocks Fall

India's stock benchmarks ended lower, dragged by telecommunications and realty stocks ahead of the release of U.S. Federal Reserve's policy statement.

The Sensex declined 0.35% to end at 60,906.09 on the BSE, while the Nifty 50 fell 0.34% to close at 18,082.85 on the NSE. Among Nifty 50 constituents, 15 stocks rose while 35 fell.

Bharti Airtel Ltd., Apollo Hospitals Enterprise Ltd., Maruti Suzuki India Ltd., Eicher Motors Ltd. and Britannia Industries Ltd. were the top losers, while Hindalco Industries Ltd., Sun Pharmaceutical Ltd., ITC Ltd., Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Ltd. and Tech Mahindra Ltd. were the top gainers on Nifty 50.

The broader indices outperformed their larger peers with the mid cap losing 0.12% and the small cap gaining 0.23%. Fourteen of the 20 sectoral measures complied by BSE Ltd. declined with telecommunication and realty declining over 1%.

The market breadth is skewed in the favour of bulls. About 1,799 stocks rose, 1,668 fell and 142 remained unchanged.
