Global crude oil prices surged this week amid escalating geopolitical tensions between the United States and Iran, though Indian consumers saw no immediate impact at the pump as domestic fuel rates remained steady.
Brent crude crossed $93 per barrel, heading for a weekly gain exceeding 5% after touching $90.99 in recent trade. Meanwhile, U.S. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude hovered near $86 per barrel, riding a five-session winning streak following a previous 2.6% daily jump to $84.50.
The upward momentum stems from growing fears of supply disruptions after Washington prepared new economic measures against Tehran. Market anxiety spiked as a key June memorandum of understanding between the two nations expired Monday without extension, and a senior Iranian official warned that Tehran could adopt an offensive posture if diplomatic talks falter.

Domestic retail prices do not instantly mirror short-term international price swings due to local pricing mechanisms, refining margins, freight costs, and tax structures. However, analysts warn that prolonged crude inflation poses significant risks for India, which imports over 85% of its crude oil. Sustained higher global benchmarks threaten to inflate the nation's import bill, weaken the rupee against the dollar, and trigger broader inflationary pressures across the domestic economy.
