The water levels in Mumbai's seven lakes stood at close to 30% on Monday as of 6 a.m. These lakes play a crucial role in providing drinking water to the residents of Mumbai.
The seven lakes supplying water to Mumbai are Upper Vaitarna, Middle Vaitarna, Bhatsa, Tansa, Tulsi, Modak Sagar and Vehar. These lakes have a total capacity of 14.47 lakh million litres. They are spread across the districts of Mumbai, Thane and Nashik.
The water level in these lakes stood at 28.21% of the total capacity of 14,47,363 million litres of useful water content, as per the latest BMC data. This is an increase from the 26.84% level recorded the previous day. The total useful water content at the seven lakes stood at 4,08,299 million litres, as of 6 a.m. on Monday.
The useful water content in Upper Vaitarna, Middle Vaitarna, Modak Sagar and Tansa lakes collectively stood at 2,28,275 million litres. This represents 32.87% of their total capacity of 6,94,582 million litres. Among them, Upper Vaitarna had the highest amount of useful water at 75,726 million litres, accounting for 33.35% of its total capacity.
Among the seven lakes, the greatest amount of useful water content was found at the Bhatsa lake. It stood at 1,65,929 million litres, representing 23.14% of its total capacity of 7,17,037 million litres.
Till 6 a.m. on Monday, Upper Vaitarna saw 16 mm of rainfall, while the Modak Sagar received 25 mm. Tansa and Middle Vaitarna recorded 40 mm and 69 mm of rainfall, respectively. Bhatsa received 11 mm of rainfall and Vehar recorded 7 mm. Tulsi recorded a rainfall of 5 mm.

Mumbai and its suburban areas will generally see cloudy skies with the possibility of heavy rainfall a few places. As per IMD's weather forecast issued on June 22, Mumbai, Thane and Palghar have been out on Yellow alert with the possibility of heavy rainfall at isolated places.
As per the Nowcast warnings issued at 10:00 am, Mumbai and Thane will witness light to moderate rainfall for the news few hours.

Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall in Madhya Maharashtra from June 23 to June 27. Raigad, Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, Ghats of Pune, and Ghats of Satara have been issued an orange alert with the possibility of heavy to very heavy rainfall at few places.
Further, light to moderate rainfall is expected at many places in Madhya Maharashtra and Marathwada regions during the same period.
