The holy month of Ramadan, also known as Ramzan, started in India on Feb. 19. This marks the time for fasting, prayer and reflection for millions of Muslims in India and around the world. 

During this time, observers fast from dawn to dusk, keeping their focus on spiritual growth, charity and helping the community. 

The month starts after the sighting of the crescent moon, which is usually first seen in the Gulf countries. The holy period begins a day later in India and other nearby regions.

Being the ninth month in the Islamic calendar, Ramadan represents discipline and gratitude.  

In the month of Ramadan, Muslims observe fast from dawn to sunset, usually starting their day with Sehri, the pre-fast meal. It is followed by Iftar, which breaks fast after sunset. It often starts with dates and water.

Ramadan 2026: Significance

The month of Ramadan lasts for 29 to 30 days. It concludes with the grand celebrations of Eid al-Fitr, which is an important Islamic festival. It is considered to be the month when the holy Qur'an was first revealed to the Prophet Muhammad.

During this month, Muslims observe fast, prepare special meals, seek Allah's blessings and reflect on the Prophet's teachings. Also, they look forward to spending time with their family and friends.
