A remarkable incident unfolded on a moving train when a pregnant woman went into labour and gave birth mid-journey, with quick intervention from Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel by activating Operation Matrishakti, ensuring the safety of both mother and child, according to an NDTV report.
The incident occurred when 28-year-old Rukhsana Khatun, traveling aboard the Pune-Supaul Express, suddenly went into advanced labour. As her condition became critical, fellow passengers immediately alerted the railway staff.
Responding to the emergency, Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel stationed on the train and at nearby units quickly coordinated to provide assistance.
RPF officers swiftly stepped in to manage the emergency, coordinating with train staff and passengers to create a safe and clean space for the delivery. With limited medical resources available on the moving train, the personnel used their training and presence of mind to assist the woman during childbirth.
Despite the challenging circumstances, the delivery was successfully completed on board the train.
After the baby was safely delivered, the RPF team ensured that both the mother and newborn were stabilized. They arranged for medical assistance at the nearest station, where ambulances and healthcare professionals were kept ready to receive the passengers.
The atmosphere of tension aboard the train quickly dissolved into one of celebration as Rukhsana gave birth to a healthy baby. The sound of the newborn's first cries echoed through the cabin, bringing immediate relief and joy to the fellow passengers who had spent the previous hours watching the emergency unfold with bated breath.
Medical professionals later confirmed that both Rukhsana and her newborn are in stable condition and recovering well. Following the mid-journey delivery, the pair was transported to a nearby healthcare facility where doctors conducted a full evaluation, pronouncing both mother and child healthy and safe.
