Quashing rumours of a lockdown in India, Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas Hardeep Singh Puri on Thursday urged citizens to remain calm. In a post on X, the minister stated "there is no such proposal under consideration by the Government of India."
With the Middle East war triggering a global energy crisis, Puri wrote, "The global situation remains in flux, and we are closely monitoring developments across energy, supply chains, and essential commodities on a real-time basis."

He added the Modi government was working for citizens' needs. "Under the leadership of PM Modi, all necessary steps are being taken to ensure uninterrupted availability of fuel, energy, and other critical supplies for our citizens," the post further added.
“India has consistently demonstrated resilience in the face of global uncertainties, and we will continue to act in a timely, proactive, and coordinated manner,” he said.

In his recent speech in Parliament, Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged people to be “prepared and united, just as they had stood together during the COVID-19 pandemic,” which triggered speculation about a potential lockdown.

The PM's main objective behind the speech was to showcase India's preparedness in tackling the global crisis, and the term “lockdown” was never mentioned during his address.
However, reports of a nationwide lockdown surfaced as panic buying hit petrol pumps and LPG supplies tightened. Puri has emphatically dismissed these rumours, asserting India's energy security is robust.
He said the Centre was taking every possible measure to ensure uninterrupted fuel supply.
