Mumbai is expected to continue to receive light to moderate rainfall over the next couple of days, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said. Drizzle occurred in parts of the city on Tuesday due to a cyclonic circulation over central Maharashtra and its neighbourhood in lower tropospheric levels.

Maharashtra Weather Update

This cyclonic circulation will continue to bring rainfall in Mumbai and nearby regions till Apr. 5, the IMD said. Subsequently, Mumbai, Thane, Palghar, Raigad, Ratnagiri, Dhule, among other districts have been on a yellow alert by the weather body. Thunderstorms, accompanied with light to moderate rainfall and gusty winds with speed up to 40 kilometres per hour are expected in these districts on Wednesday.

"A thunderstorm with lightning, light to moderate rainfall, and gusty winds (30-40 km/h) is expected at isolated places," the IMD predicted about Mumbai. It added that the city is expected to remain dry for the next three days till Apr. 5.

On Tuesday afternoon, the IMD had warned that Mumbai would see light rain or thundershowers towards evening and night in both the city and suburbs over the next 24 hours. However, the cloudy skies were unlikely to provide any relief from the heat. The city recorded a maximum temperature of 33.5 degrees Celsius at its official weather station on Tuesday.
