The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has released a formal statement regarding the uproar over the Class 12 Result 2026 and the On-Screen Marking (OSM) assessment method. The statement followed a surge of concerns from students, parents, and educators on social media about surprisingly low scores in physics, chemistry, biology, and mathematics.
Several students also said that although they passed competitive examinations like JEE, they failed in the CBSE board assessments. In defence of the digital evaluation method, CBSE stated that the OSM approach guarantees transparency, equity, and reliability in grading. The board plans to initiate the CBSE 12th re-evaluation procedure starting May 19, 2026.
In its official remarks shared via social media, CBSE emphasised that the On-Screen Marking (OSM) technique was implemented to enhance the clarity of the evaluation process. As per the board, the digital grading system ensures that students receive appropriate stepwise marks and diminishes the likelihood of human errors during evaluation.
Class 12 re-evaluation from May 19
The CBSE has declared that the reassessment procedure for the Class 12 result of 2026 will commence on May 19. Students who believe their grades are lower than anticipated must initially request photocopies of their graded answer sheets. After examining the copies, students can then submit requests for verification or re-evaluation of particular answers.

The board has advised candidates to complete the procedure within the specified deadlines and to pay the necessary application fees. CBSE also made it clear that corrective measures will be implemented if any irregularity is detected during the re-evaluation process.
According to CBSE examination regulations, candidates who fail in a single subject may also qualify for compartment examinations as long as they satisfy other passing criteria. The board is likely to announce the comprehensive schedule and fee details for re-evaluation soon on its official website.
