District police have initiated a search operation after a 16-year-old girl from Kerala went missing in the Chandradrona Hills of Chikkamagaluru on Tuesday, as per TOI.

Srinandhana was on a family trip when she suddenly became untraceable. Chikkamagaluru SP Jitendra Kumar Dayama said high-tech search measures, including thermal drones, have been deployed in Chikkamagaluru to locate the missing girl, as per the report.

On Wednesday, the intensive search was resumed after a temporary suspension late Tuesday. All emergency personnel from different departments, including the forest and fire services, have been deployed for the search. “We have intensified the search with multiple teams on the ground. Challenging terrain and dense mist are hampering operations,” a senior officer added, reported TOI.

The investigation has been launched, with authorities collecting call record data between the girl and her parents.

The state authorities have swung into action, with forest minister Eshwar Khandre pledging "full departmental support" to the Chikkamagaluru search teams. This case follows closely on the successful rescue of GS Sharanya, a techie from Kerala who was found safe after a three-day disappearance in Kodagu's Tadiandamol hills. The government is reportedly looking to replicate the coordination used in the Kodagu rescue to locate Srinandhana.

Identified as Sharanya, the trekker reportedly became separated from her 15-member group during a climb on Thursday. Despite being part of an officially sanctioned trek organised by forest authorities, she lost her way in the dense terrain. The incident immediately triggered an intensive multi-agency search operation as concerns grew over her safety in the isolated wilderness.

After 72 hours of uncertainty, the search ended on Sunday evening when members of the Kudiya tribe discovered Sharanya. Utilising their deep-rooted knowledge of the terrain, the tribal rescuers successfully navigated the area. They immediately signaled authorities, ending the intensive multi-agency operation.
