Kartavya Path in Delhi was lit up with around 1.25 lakh earthen lamps on Thursday as Chief Minister Rekha Gupta joined residents in lighting an ‘Ashirwad Ka Diya' to mark Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 76th birthday.
The phrase ‘Ashirwad Ka Diya' was created using rows of clay lamps, which were lit by Gupta, BJP MP Bansuri Swaraj, NDMC Vice Chairperson Kuljeet Singh Chahal and members of the public.
A similar programme was held at the Red Fort, where BJP MP Praveen Khandelwal and BJP leader Sunil Bansal took part in the celebrations.
The Delhi government held several events across the capital during the day to commemorate Modi's birthday.
Gupta also inaugurated a Namo Shramik Sewa Kendra in her Shalimar Bagh constituency. She said workers would be able to register at the centre without any charge and access various welfare schemes offered by the Delhi and central governments.
As part of the celebrations, Gupta also attended a yajna at the Khatu Shyam Temple on GT Karnal Road.
