Parts of Delhi and Noida experienced light rain on Wednesday morning, a day after the India Meteorological Department (IMD) had predicted drizzle and a slight dip in daytime temperatures.
The IMD had forecast overcast skies with light rain and issued a yellow alert for the city, reported Times of India.
What Is The Weather Like Today?
According to the department, maximum temperatures are expected to settle between 26-28 degrees celsius, while minimum temperatures may range from 13-15 degrees celsius.
Officials said minimum temperatures are likely to remain largely unchanged over the next 24 hours, before dropping by 2–3 degree celsius over the following two days. No significant change is expected thereafter.
On Tuesday, the city recorded a maximum temperature of 30.9 degree celsius, slightly lower than Monday's 31.6 degree celsius. The minimum temperature stood at 12.4 degree celsius, marginally above normal, compared to 10.1 degree celsius the previous day. North-westerly winds were blowing at speeds of up to six kmph.
Pre-dawn rainfall reportedly brought cooler morning conditions, partly cloudy skies, and intermittent gusty winds in several parts of the capital.
According to the report, wind speeds are likely to reach 30–40 kmph in isolated pockets.
Western Disturbances Driving Weather Change
According to the TOI report, the rainfall in Delhi and nearby regions is linked to active Western disturbances affecting northwest India.
One disturbance, in the form of a cyclonic circulation, is located over central Pakistan and adjoining Punjab, around 3.1 km above mean sea level.
Another system over southeast Pakistan extends up to about 7.6 km above mean sea level and tilts northwestward.
An induced upper-air cyclonic circulation also persists over Punjab and adjoining areas. These systems are bringing cloud cover, light to moderate rain in isolated places, and the possibility of thunderstorms across Delhi, Haryana, and Punjab.
While rainfall in Delhi has remained light and scattered, adjoining states may experience more intense weather activity.
