Months after the roof collapse accident, the terminal 1 (T1) of the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport in Delhi fully resumed its operations on Tuesday. With this, Terminal 2 of the airport will be temporarily closed starting today for certain maintenance work. Hence, T1 and T3 of the airport will handle the passenger capacity.
"Terminal1 is going fully operational at 0001 hours, 15th April 2025," the Delhi Airport's official X handle confirmed the development.
"Starting from Apr. 15 2025 (0001 hrs), all flights operating from Terminal 2 will be relocated to Terminal 1 until further notice," the airport announced.

Delhi International Airport Ltd. or DIAL, which maintains the airport, had said on Jan. 10 that T2 will be closed for a few months in the next financial year. The maintenance work is expected to be completed by September this year. There are three terminals and four runways in the airport, which handles more than 70 million passengers annually.

Due to scheduled maintenance, Terminal 2 will remain closed until further notice. As a result, passengers may experience changes to their boarding details.
For the convenience of the passengers, T1 features facial recognition (DIGI YATRA) at all entry points. It has six gates, of which only 5 and 6 were operational until now.
The terminal has 108 Common Usage Self-Service (CUSS) kiosks for check-in for smooth management of passenger influx.
Additionally, it has 10 baggage reclaim carousels (each 70 metres long) to ensure more efficiency.
T1 has been upgraded to handle more baggage capacity to 6,000 per hour. Earlier, it could handle about 3,000 bags hourly.

IndiGo and Akasa Air will shift their domestic flights to Delhi airport's Terminal 1 from Terminal 2 starting Tuesday. At present, IndiGo and Akasa Air have flights from T2, which handles around 270-280 air traffic movements and serves over 46,000 passengers per day.
IndiGo on Monday said it has taken proactive measures to ensure that customers are well-informed about the change in terminals.
Civil Aviation Secretary Vumlunmang Vualnam on Monday said T3 and the T1 will be able to handle the passenger traffic and emphasised that there is unlikely to be congestion due to the closure of T2.
