A cheetah was recreated using hundreds of earthen lamps in Madhya Pradesh's Sheopur district on Thursday as part of the ‘Aashirwad Ka Diya' programme organised to mark Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 76th birthday.
The lamp installation was created in Sheopur, home to Kuno National Park (KNP), and was dedicated to the reintroduction of cheetahs in India, an official said.
The initiative also sought to highlight wildlife conservation and the importance of protecting nature, the official added.
Cheetahs were brought back to India in September 2022 under Project Cheetah. Four years after the project was launched, Kuno National Park has 52 cheetahs, including 32 cubs born in India.
On September 17, 2022, Modi released eight cheetahs brought from Namibia into special enclosures at Kuno National Park.
Of the 52 cheetahs currently in Madhya Pradesh, 49 are housed at Kuno National Park, while three are at Gandhi Sagar Wildlife Sanctuary.
