CBSE Class 12 board assessments for 2026 began on Feb. 17

The Class 12 examination for the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is scheduled today (March 12). It will be held in a single session from 10:30 am to 1:30 pm.

Board rules state that students arriving after 10 am will be denied entry into the examination hall. As the gate closes at 10 am, students are advised to reach the centre at least by 9.45 am to enable smooth security checks at the exam centre.

The CBSE Class 12 board assessments for 2026 began on Feb. 17 and will go on till April 10. Exams are being held for 114 subjects at over 8,000 examination centres. An estimated 18-20 lakh candidates are taking the exams this year.

Minimum passing marks

To successfully pass the Class 12 English exam, students must secure a minimum 33% marks. An analysis of the CBSE Class 12 English exam for 2026 will be accessible in an online repository following the completion of the exam.

Marking scheme

The marking scheme for the CBSE Class 12 English Core (301) examination is as follows: Section A (22 marks), Section B (18 marks), and Section C (40 marks). An additional 20 marks are allocated for listening and speaking competencies.

Admit cards mandatory

As per CBSE regulations, candidates must present their original CBSE Class 12 admit card along with the school ID for verification before entering the examination centre. Students will have time from 10:15 am to 10:30 am to review the English exam paper prior to starting the test.

Important points to remember

As per board guidelines, students must reach the examination venue at least 30 minutes prior to the examination. Candidates must also ensure they are not carrying any unauthorised material to the exam venue. 

Prohibited materials

Electronic gadgets such as mobile phones, tablets, smartwatches, etc. are strictly forbidden in the examination room. Written notes, chits or papers are also not permitted inside the examination hall.
